All About Personal Job References and Letters of Recommendation
All About Personal Job References and Letters of Recommendation Image via Pixabay First, HR managers are simply too busy to sift through every single paper on every single application. Nor do they have time to discern whether to believe everything applicants say [at least on paper] about themselves. HR managers want to hear the truth about applicants and it can usually be given to them through a few sentences from someone else. Second, a letter of recommendation or a good reference will automatically make you stand out. It will elevate a great candidate to the top list of picks and could drop an equally great candidate to the wonât-be-hired stack. Itâs important to gather quality recommendation letters and keep them on file. In the fast hiring process, you want to turn these around quickly while at the same time giving yourself a good shot of getting to the top. So here are some additional tips about personal job references and letters of recommendation that just might be the clincher for you getting that dream job. Who To Ask On average, employers will ask for three references when applying for a job. So you need to have at least three professional people (not family members or friends) who can honestly vouch for you. It doesnât hurt to have more than three and if you have them, certainly provide them on the application if thereâs space available. It is best to select people who know much more than that you exist and worked for them. The people you ask need to know something about your character, work ethic, and overall attitude and ability for the job to which youâre applying. Select Strong Endorsers A recommendation is like a human stamp of approval. This is why it is important to know previous managers and supervisors and get their permission to use them as references. You need someone who is responsive to requests and can confirm details about you such as your responsibilities, position, reason for leaving and other details. It is also a good idea to know what the endorser is going to say about you. Some employers will simply ask for contact information and then contact them on their own. If this is the type of application youâre filling out, be sure the recommenders know that the request is coming. Ensure youâve done a good job and are leaving with no beef with your boss so there is no choice but to be positive about your performance. Make sure the information you give to a potential employer and what your references say is consistent and can be corroborated. Inconsistent, or worse, inaccurate information can hinder your chances of a job offer. All In Writing When leaving one position for another or one company for another, ask for a recommendation in writing from the boss. This is a more reasonable request especially if youâve had a good working relationship. As time passes and people get older and more forgetful or move to different positions or locations themselves, what they remember about you and your performance may fade. So if you obtain letters at least two weeks before you make your move, you will have everything documented in writing and youâll be good to go. If you ask a supervisor for a letter of recommendation long after youâre gone, you may need to kindly refresh their memory about who you are and what you did during your time with them. How To Ask This goes without saying, but be polite when asking. Take into consideration the recommenderâs time and his or her responsibilities. It is best to ask in an email and then follow up after about a week if there is no response. If you see him or her every day or regularly, if you feel comfortable, you may ask them politely whether they got your email to remind them of it. Do not ask âCan you write a recommendation letter for me?â Assume they can. The thing is they may not know what to say about you. Instead ask âIf you feel you know me well enough and feel Iâve done a good job here, would you mind writing a good recommendation letter for me?â With wording like this, the recommender can think about what to say and whether it will be good. You can also be certain that those who agree to write a letter will give you a good recommendation. If your recommender asks for additional information such as a resume, be sure to provide it. Additionally, not every supervisor has written a letter of recommendation before. If this is the case and they ask for help, provide a few samples to your employer to help in the process. How To Know Itâs Good Strong recommendation letters and references should show your skills and work ethic in a positive light. There are a few other clues you can look for to see whether it will benefit you. First, it should reflect who you are as a person and why youâre qualified. Second, it should be customized to fit the new job position in that it should show how youâll benefit the new company. Third, it should provide at least one to two examples of what youâve done to benefit the company youâre leaving. Finally, the letter should look and sound professional and include contact information for the recommender. Donât Forget Yes, one last thing. Donât forget to express your thanks. Regardless of whether you get the job youâre applying for or not, let your recommenders know what happens and be sure to sincerely thank them for taking the time and putting in the effort to produce a letter for you. And when you get the job, be sure to send another note of appreciation. After all, they were at least a small part of your success.
A Clockwork Brain Use 6 Out-of-this-world Language Learning Systems to Become Fluent!?
A Clockwork Brain Use 6 Out-of-this-world Language Learning Systems to Become Fluent!? Use These 6 Out-of-this-world Language Learning Systems to Become Fluent!? On the surface, they seem elegantly simple. But underneath, a complex network of parts must work in perfect harmony.Thats how a system works.Take, for example, the solar system. If you stare at the moon, it seems so peaceful. If you didnt know any better, youd never guess that the moon is just one of many celestial bodies hurtling at breakneck speeds through space, somehow miraculously sparing us our lives each day.Of course, our solar system is just that: a system. And though all the moving parts may seem chaotic and unpredictable, theres actually order underneath it all, and like a clockwork, everything is understandable and predictableâ"albeit very complex.Language learning systems are no different. Okay, theres less risk of imminent death from asteroids or rogue moons, but the underlying principle is the same: a language learning system is a complex network of parts that work in perfect harmony to give you the surface-level impression of elegant simplicity.Thats because language learning systems are carefully designed to maximize your learning. Like language immersion programs, language immersion software and language learning systems seek to give you a naturalistic learning experience that helps you acquire functional language skills. These smart language programs are often available as online language programs or as software. Some are even available as audio programs for anyone who likes a hands-free approach. As Benny Lewis at Fluent in 3 Months points out, the best system is human beings, but a well-designed language learning system can sure come close!Youve probably heard of the big names in the language learning system world. For example, Rosetta Stone and Pimsleur are some of the best-known options. However, there are some useful language learning systems available that you may never have heard of. Today well look at six unbelievable ones that you may not have discovered yetâ"any new learner should check them out! Why Use a Language Learnin g System?First, language learning systems are designed for learners. Because of this, they focus on catering to the unique needs of learners and addressing the most pressing issues. This makes learning systems more focused than independent study.Language learning systems also vary material to keep you engaged. Whenever you focus on one thing too long, youll probably get bored. For instance, no one likes studying vocabulary lists for hours at a time. Language learning systems avoid this tedium by switching things up and varying material. Most language systems mix listening activities, vocabulary study and more to keep you on your toes and keep your brain fully engaged.Additionally, language learning systems include a wide array of tasks and exercises to ensure you develop well-rounded skills. If you study independently or use imbalanced resources, you risk having some skills that are more developed than others. For instance, you might end up being able to read a language, without ac tually being able to speak it. Language learning systems focus on providing balanced skills, saving you the trouble of having to remember to get in your reading, writing, speaking and listening practice.Whats more, language learning systems are convenient. Many are entirely online, while others offer a software option. Additionally, many are flexible regarding the amount of time you use themâ"you can study for mere minutes a day or for hours on end. Finally, language learning systems are less expensive than most conventional courses. If you take a course at a university, its likely to cost thousands of dollars, and if you want to become fluent in a language, youll need to take several courses. Needless to say, these costs can really add up. Many language learning systems are available for purchase and/or via online subscription, and these usually cost significantly less.Lets have a look!Use These 6 Out-of-this-world Language Learning Systems to Become Fluent!?FluenzFluenzs approach is to use your knowledge of English to help you acquire a new language.By pointing out words between languages that share the same root words and relating grammar and syntax to the rules you already know, Fluenz aims to help you learn your new language quickly. The main program includes guided video lessons and targeted practice of the principles youve learned. When you purchase Fluenz, you also get access to online content, apps, flashcards and MP3s.Fluenz is available for download or on a disc.Fluenz currently offers courses in French, Italian, Portuguese, German, Chinese and both European and Latin American Spanish.FluentUFluentUs language learning system offers a uniquely engaging experience for language learners.Thats because FluentU doesnt use conventional course material. The core streams of science, technology, engineering and mathematics are abbreviated as STEM. STEM education and programs invariably empower students to develop scientific thinking, creative problem-solving skills and understand the importance of working as a team. There are also benefits of STEM from an economic standpoint. The programs bring an awareness of real-world applications enhancing the ability of students to collaborate. Being exposed to these programs puts young students at a strategic advantage. Countries today are witnessing a high growth rate in STEM jobs but at many times a lack of talent to fill this demand. Fostering this learning at younger ages improves the outlook for all parties involved. Given the importance of STEM in our world, it makes sense to nurture the potential to perform in these subjects within your child. STEM fields are growing and will continue to grow more rapidly. Children are naturally curious so encouraging questions and making learning a regular habit in these subjects is a great place to start with young students. One of the best ways to spark an interest in these subjects in order to start a life-long journey is to develop confidence at a young age. Often, additional support from supplemental and enrichment programs helps those students who arenât naturally inclined to the STEM fields.
TutorZ Rolls Out jQuery Dialog Windows
TutorZ Rolls Out jQuery Dialog Windows As of today tutors and students have an improved account management experience: jQuery based dialog windows. The old GreyBox-based dialog windows were clumsy, not-so-stylish and sometimes did not render the content at all. Thats why we needed to find alternatives. We decided to use the dialog windows that come with jQuery library. We found jQuery to be a great technology and are going use it even more in future development projects. says Dirk Wagner, software architect at TutorZ. jQuery is a easy-to-use and rich front-end library. TutorZ has already used jQuery slider, accordion and ajax functionality. Now we have also deployed the jQuery dialog. GreyBox is an older browser front-end technology and it was great back in 2010. But it has not much improved since then and in 2015 clearly eclipsed by jQuery. Nonetheless we are happy to have used GreyBox and want to express our thanks its developers. Below you see an example of the new dialog window. Its a modal box (not interacting with the rest of the page) informing a tutor that a particular job has already been purchased.

Will Cardio Physical Activity Help You Sing Better [Video]
Will Cardio Physical Activity Help You Sing Better [Video] Suzy S. Can doing physical exercise and cardio help you become a better singer? The answer is yes! Learn how to strengthen your singing voice and which activities are best in this article by voice teacher Rebecca R Imagine this scenario: youve signed up to run your first marathon. Maybe you ran cross-country back in high school and have kept up with running as a regular form of exercise. Because of this, you dont use a training plan, and instead continue your normal exercise routine. When the day of the marathon arrives, though, you struggle to complete the entire course and end up injured. Youd probably feel like your body betrayed you, right? While this scenario is a VERY exaggerated circumstance, it gets the point across: in order to accomplish a physical goal in the healthiest way possible, a certain amount of body awareness and training is required. And although it doesnt demand nearly the same endurance training as running a marathon, singing is a very physical activity. While just two tiny muscles are responsible for forming the sound of your singing voice (your vocal cords), the act of singing is a whole-body experience. So, whats the proper way to train? Adding physical activity to your musical practice to develop stamina and strengthen your singing voice is a great idea. Heres how it can help you sing better: 1. Your body is your instrument. In nearly every introductory voice lesson I teach, the student is always surprised by how physically demanding the lesson is. Often, he or she feels like they just went on a jog. That is exactly how any student should feel after a voice lesson! When you sing to the best of your ability, you are using your entire body. Your feet ground you, your legs support you, and your torso expands and works to provide the breath support needed to fuel your singing. Even if youâre sitting in a chair, leaning against a piano, or laying on the ground, you are using more than just your throat and head to sing. If learning how to strengthen your singing voice is a goal for you, the first step is to map out body awareness. Ask yourself the following questions the next time you sing: Which muscles are engaging when I breathe? When Iâm singing a phrase of music? What do my feet feel like under me? Can they feel the ground? Where do I feel my torso expand when I inhale? In the front? On the sides? In the back? Am I holding any unnecessary tension in the body? Maybe in the shoulders or the jaw? 2. Breath, breath, and more breath! Lung expansion is a saving grace for any singer. For most circumstances in everyday life, we inhale and exhale subconsciously without needing to actively engage our lungs. When we sing, however, we use up to 90% of our lung capacity depending on the range, style, and length of the song. Unless you also happen to be an athlete, chances are you dont perform many activities throughout the day that require a lot of conscious breathing. Enter cardio exercises: jogging, running, swimming, circuit training, you name it! All of these forms of exercise, in addition to their overall health benefits, will improve lung expansion, which helps you access more of your lung capacity and fuel your voice through any practice session, lesson, or performance. Good breath support gained through cardio exercise is what ultimately will provide the stamina to sing safely for hours, days, and years. Editors Note: For more breathing exercises, join our next live, online class! View the schedule and reserve your spot here. 3. The Importance of Posture While having good posture may seem obvious, I donât think most singers realize that posture is something that needs to be worked on and strengthened regularly. Just like training the lungs with cardio, we need to strengthen our body to support good, natural posture while releasing tight muscles. Yoga or pilates will accomplish both of these goals, along with added mental benefits! By strengthening your instrument (your body) and loosening up tight muscles, you will sing more freely and with more ease. As an added bonus, youll be able to warm up your voice much more quickly if your body is already warmed up! Hereâs a quick little trick for when you need help setting up your posture: Inhale fully and deeply without raising your shoulders or tightening your neck. Then, as you exhale, imagine your spine growing longer in both directions, up out of the top of your head and down toward the ground simultaneously. How Much Physical Activity Do I Need to Sing at My Best? While the minutes spent and intensity of all physical activity will vary from person to person, hereâs a basic schedule you may want to follow: 3 times/week: Cardio should be reserved for long vocal practice days. On cardio days, Iâve found that my lung capacity is at its best, and the energy I feel after cardio helps fuel long practice sessions. To get all the benefits of the cardio when you sing, try to fit it in before you practice. 2 times/week: Yoga or pilates is reserved for my non-practice/non-performance days. Yoga classes that are lengthy and provide a hearty workout (such as Vinyasa or power yoga), as well as pilates classes, build strength and flexibility, which can leave the body sore and in need of some recovery. Itâs best to avoid activity that might add temporary tension or tightness on singing days or save the workout for after your singing. Every day: Gentle yoga and stretching can be done anytime and is highly encouraged, particularly before you sing. I always reserve time for some gentle yoga on performance days, audition days, or long rehearsal days â" the gentle stretch not only allows my mind and body to calm down and feel grounded but also makes warming up vocally easier and quicker. Give it a Try Follow along with the video below for a quick stretching sequence you can start using today. Singers, what kinds of physical activity do you engage in? 10+ Fun Italian Grammar and Vocabulary Games for Kids
10+ Fun Italian Grammar and Vocabulary Games for Kids Brooke Neuman Learning Italian grammar and vocabulary can be difficult for kids. Below, Italian teacher Nadia B. shares some games parents and teachers can play to help engage kids in learning Italian For kids, learning Italian can be a great adventure, filled with exciting new discoveries. As your child explores the joy of learning Italian, you can aid him or her by playing fun Italian grammar and vocabulary games. These games are chock-full of fun activities so that learning Italian can become less painless and more fun! Below are 10+ Italian grammar and vocabulary games that will make a big difference in your childs learning. 1. Rhymes and Tongue Twisters These fun and imaginative verbal adventures will help your child to think of Italian as a playful and colorful exploration, not to mention build a strong Italian vocabulary and understanding of syntax and grammar. You can trade off reciting lines of a rhyme, have a tongue twister competition, or read a fable before bedtime. Before you know it, learning Italian will be just another fun part of the day. 2. Memory Games Using index cards, write out some Italian vocabulary words. Try choosing a theme (for example, colors or animals). Then, create a matching card with a related vocabulary word. Lay them all out with the words face-down and have your child try to select the pairs. Recalling where each word is located will help the vocabulary word stick in your childs mind. 3. Make Assuming Sentences This game is similar to MadLibs, as you provide all the parts of a sentence and then allow your child to choose words to form a unique sentence. Heres how to do it: Write out all of the pronouns (io, tu, lui, lei, Lei, noi, voi, loro), a selection of verbs (volare, ridere, sorridere, pensare, andare), and some nouns (il gatto, il cane, lalbero, il poliziotto, lItalia, etc.) Keep each category of words in its own pile. Your child can select a pronoun, verb and possibly a noun to form a sentence. For example, Io volo con il gatto (I fly with the cat). You can help your child to form grammatically correct sentences by providing prepositions (con, sopra, sotto) when needed. The sillier the sentence, the better! 4. Sing in Italian Download, purchase, or stream some simple songs in Italian in which you and your child can sing along. For example, you can search for Christmas carols or lullabies. Encourage your child to sing along, or to sing from memory when you have free time in the car, while walking, or some other time. Sing along together, or help your child as needed to remember the lyrics. 5. Charades Charades is a really fun game and there are so many opportunities to tailor it to your childs needs. First, write out a selection of verbs, nouns or phrases to act out. Once youve formed two teams, start by having the first team draw a verb, noun, and phrase to act out while the other team guesses. This can be as simple as two teams you and your child or can involve other children and family members. 6. I Spy This game is an excellent option when youre on the go or exploring a new place. It will encourage your child to view and describe his or her surroundings in Italian. You can give your child a prompt of Io vedo (I see) and then let him or her choose an item to identify in Italian. For example, Io vedo una nuvola grande e bianca. (I see a big, white cloud). 7. Describe an Imaginary Friend If your child has an imaginary friend, ask him or her to describe him or her to you in Italian. For example, Luisa è simpatica, alta e bionda. Le piace nuotare e saltare la corda. (Luisa is friendly, tall and blond. She likes to swim and jump rope.). This helps to build useful Italian vocabulary. You can also ask your child to talk to his or her imaginary friend in Italian! This is a playful way to show your child that Italian can be spoken anywhere and anytime. 8. Italian in the Kitchen If youre busy cooking in the kitchen, why not get your child involved? Go online to find a recipe in Italian to use. As you cook, have your child read the recipe and then ask him or her to name the ingredients as they go in the pot to be cooked. You can also ask your child to retrieve ingredients with the Italian name (for example, farina, latte, pane), and describe the colors and size (Comè il pomodoro? Whats the tomato like?). This is also a great Italian culture activity, as cooking and eating together as a family is a common tradition in Italy. 9. Identify Characteristics Gather up some old magazines or newspapers laying around the house. Cut out pictures of objects and people from those magazines, and have your child describe the particular scene in Italian. Encourage your child to use color, specific characteristics, and numbers to practice adjectives, quantity and more! 10. Give Commands Designate a piece of clothing or a certain item, such as a hat or a scarf. Whenever someone is wearing that particular item, he or she is responsible for issuing commands to the other people in the group. For example, the person wearing the item could say the following: Gira a la destra; dimmi un piccolo racconto; chiamami Alessandro quando mi parli (Turn to the right; tell me a short story; call me Alessandro when you speak to me). This game is meant to be silly and encourage children to practice commands in a fun and memorable way. The roles reverse whenever the person with the item issues a command that the other person chooses not to obey, or doesnt obey. 11. Ask Questions Ask your child any question in Italian. You can find a set of questions in your childs Italian textbook or online. If your child answers the question with the proper Italian grammar, he or she can then ask you a question. The game can be played with just the two of you, or with other children. This is another exercise that can be silly and amusing, while simultaneously reinforcing interrogative words, grammar, and vocabulary. Learning Italian doesnt have to be boring. Make learning enjoyable for your child by playing games with him or her in between his or her lessons. Photo by Leonid Mamchenkov Post Author: Nadia B. Nadia B. teaches Italian in New York, NY.
